Questions

Immigration FAQs

Do you handle immigration cases outside Maryland and DC?

Yes. Immigration law is federal, and the firm handles federal immigration matters for clients nationwide. Fatmata Barrie is admitted in the District of Columbia only and is not admitted in Maryland. State and local legal matters are handled in the District of Columbia only.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Bring whatever you have. Helpful items include:

  • Passports and other identity documents
  • Any immigration papers you have received, such as approval or receipt notices, your I-94 record, or a visa
  • Past applications or petitions you have filed
  • Any court papers, such as a Notice to Appear or hearing notices
  • Marriage, birth, and other civil documents if a family relationship is involved
How long will my case take?

It depends on the type of application, current agency processing times, and your individual circumstances. Processing times change, and no one can guarantee how long an agency will take. At your consultation we discuss what is realistic for your situation.

What should I do if I receive a Notice to Appear?

A Notice to Appear starts removal proceedings in immigration court. Do not ignore it, and do not miss a hearing date, because missing a hearing can result in an order of removal in your absence. Contact an attorney as soon as possible.

How much does a consultation cost?

The consultation fee is $300. If you hire the firm, that amount is credited toward the attorney fee. Fees for representation are discussed during your consultation.
